Pin Video Downloader adds download controls to Pinterest pages and saves selected, supported videos as MP4 files. The developer does not operate a server that receives browsing data or downloaded media from this extension. The extension contains no analytics or advertising SDKs.
On supported Pinterest pages, the extension reads page elements and pin and media URLs to attach download buttons and identify videos. It observes matching pinimg.com HLS playlist requests associated with browser tabs, including before a download button is clicked. These URLs, video identifiers, filenames, timestamps and tab identifiers are held temporarily in extension memory to associate downloads with videos. This information is not sent to the developer.
When the user requests a download, the extension may retrieve the selected Pinterest pin page and retrieve video playlists, audio and video segments from Pinterest media servers. Supported HLS media is assembled in the browser. Direct MP4 files are downloaded through Chrome.
Requests go to Pinterest and its pinimg.com media hosts over HTTPS. These services receive normal request information, including the user's IP address and requested resource. The browser may attach existing site cookies to credentialed requests, subject to browser settings. The extension does not read cookie values through the cookies API, ask for a Pinterest password, or send authentication credentials to the developer. Pinterest's own privacy practices apply to its services.
The "Always show on thumbnails" preference is stored with chrome.storage.sync. Chrome may synchronize this setting through the user's Google account when sync is enabled. This is not developer-operated storage.
Detected media records for a tab are removed when the tab closes or when the background service worker's memory is discarded. Resolved pin results are reused for up to five minutes; expired entries may remain in memory until replaced or the worker stops. Temporary media buffers and Blob URLs are used during HLS assembly. The extension requests Blob URL release after a download completes or is interrupted and schedules a fallback release; browser lifecycle events can affect cleanup timing. Downloaded files remain on the user's device until the user deletes them. Chrome maintains its own download records.
Data is used only to provide the download functionality and its display setting. The developer does not sell this data, use it for advertising, or use it for credit or lending decisions. Users can change the display setting in the popup, manage site permissions or uninstall the extension through Chrome, and delete downloaded files themselves.
For questions, use the developer contact shown on the extension's Chrome Web Store listing. This extension is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Pinterest. Users should download only content they own or have permission to download.
